IBRO Partnerships: outreach, engagement and diversity
IBRO works with partners around the world to raise public awareness of the importance of the brain and promote inclusive, equitable neuroscience.
As a founding partner along with FENS and SfN, IBRO helped to establish the ALBA Network in 2019 to support and encourage diversity and equity in neuroscience. Through the ALBA Network, IBRO supports programs aiming to facilitate discussions about issues facing neuroscientists globally, and the best ways to address them, as well as providing networking and mentoring opportunities for scientists from underrepresented groups. The Dana Foundation is a private philanthropic organization based in New York dedicated to advancing neuroscience and society by supporting cross-disciplinary intersections such as neuroscience and ethics, law, policy, humanities, and arts. IBRO collaborates with the Dana Foundation to support the implementation of Brain Awareness Week in Africa, Asia/Pacific, Latin America and US/Canada. Find out more. The Dana Foundation is also a partner in the Global Engagement Initiative.
European Brain Council - EBC
Through its Pan Europe Regional Committee (PERC), IBRO is a member of the EBC, a European network of key players in the “Brain Area”, whose membership encompasses scientific societies, patient organizations, professional societies and industry partners. In addition to advocating for the importance of brain research at European level, EBC has spearheaded European projects such as the European Brain Research Area (EBRA) leading to the generation of a European Research Inventory and Mapping Report and a Shared European Brain Research Agenda.
International Brain Bee - IBB
The International Brain Bee (IBB) is an independent organization which aims to motivate students to learn about the brain and to inspire them to pursue careers in neuroscience so they can help treat and find cures for brain disorders. The IBB was formally established as an educational non-profit organization in 2018 with the support of IBRO, the American Psychological Association (APA), the Dana Foundation, the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS), and the Society for Neuroscience (SfN), together with the Brain Bee Founder, Dr. Norbert Myslinski. Simply Neuroscience is composed of, and targeted towards, budding scientists at the high school and early undergraduate levels. IBRO’s Early Career Committee has partnered with Simply Neuroscience to support an initiative known as “The Synapse”, a student-led coalition of podcast series that aims to promote dialogue with people from different backgrounds and showcase the interdisciplinary applications of neuroscience and psychology. Find out more about the collaboration.
World Women in Neuroscience - WWN
World Women in Neuroscience (WWN) is an independent consulting, mentoring, and networking body with the mission of promoting career development of women neuroscientists across the globe through mentoring and networking activities. Through its partnership with WWN, IBRO aims to promote inclusive networking and mentoring opportunities for neuroscientists around the world, with a focus on scientists from underrepresented groups.
