European Brain Council

IBRO’s Pan-European Regional Committee (IBRO-PERC) is a member of the European Brain Council (EBC), a non-profit organization gathering patient associations, major brain-related societies as well as industries, which aims to promote brain research in order to improve the quality of life of those living with brain disorders in Europe. EBC stands as the platform to foster cooperation between its member organizations and other stakeholders, consistently promoting dialogue between scientists, industry and society. EBC emphasizes the importance of continued interaction with the European institutions to build strong European health policies, raise awareness and encourage education about the brain and the repercussions of neurological and mental health conditions on society as a whole.

IBRO was involved in the EBC-led project, the European Brain Research Area, which aimed to act as a catalyzer to streamline and better coordinate brain research across Europe while fostering global initiatives. The EBRA European Research Inventory and Mapping Report provides insight into the brain research activities funded at the European level within the EU framework programmes FP7 and Horizon 2020, as well as the funding initiatives of the EU Joint Programme – Neurodegenerative Disease Research (JPND), ERA-NET NEURON and the Human Brain Project.

The Shared European Brain Research Agenda builds upon the EBRA report and aims to identify research opportunities and research and innovation gaps to be addressed in the field and to provide recommendations on future areas for excellent, innovative and translational brain research in Europe.
