IBRO is pleased to announce the outcome of the September 2023 elections for members of the Regional Committees, who were chosen by the IBRO Governing Council. The elected members who will start their term from January 2024 are:

Dr. Sukumal Chongthammakun 🇹🇭
Dr. Sukumal Chongthammakun, is a Professor at the Department of Anatomy and Center for Neuroscience Faculty of Science, Mahidol University in Thailand. Dr. Sukumal Chongthammakun, Ph.D. is an Emeritus Professor with a specialization in Anatomy and Neuroscience at the Department of Anatomy and Center for Neuroscience, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand.
Dr. Yukiko Goda 🇯🇵
Dr. Yukiko Goda is a Professor at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology, Graduate University in Japan, and has experience working with international bodies, for example, having served as the Japan representative on the INCF Governing Board for 3 years (2016-2018), and in societies such as the Society for Neuroscience Program Committee (2016-2019) and International Society for Neurochemistry Advanced School Sub-Committee (2016-2021). Dr. Goda has been a member of IBRO-APRC since 2021.
Dr. Mouna Maroun 🇮🇱
Dr. Mouna Maroun is a Professor at the University of Haifa in Israel. She also held several senior administrative positions in the Israeli academic community and at the University of Haifa, including chair of the Department of Neuroscience at Haifa University and member of the National Higher Council of Higher Education in Israel, which is responsible for policy, long-term planning and budgeting the entire university and college system.
Dr. Jana Vukovic 🇦🇺
Dr. Jana Vukovic is an Associate Professor at The University of Queensland in Australia and Treasurer of the Australasian Society (ANS). Dr Vukovic was awarded an ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (2015-2018) and was jointly appointed as a group leader by the UQ School of Biomedical Sciences (SBMS) and QBI in 2015. She heads the Neuroimmunology and Cognition team investigating the interactions between the brain and the immune system in health and disease.

Dr. Espérance Kashala Abotnes 🇨🇩
Dr. Espérance Kashala Abotnes is Staff Psychiatrist & a Professor at Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario & University of Kinshasa (Dpt Neurology). Dr. Kashala Abotnes has accumulated experience in mental health/neurosciences at both national and international levels for the past 25 years. Dr. Kashala Abotnes has been a member of IBRO-ARC since 2021.
Dr. Nadia El Kadmiri 🇲🇦
Dr. Nadia El Kadmiri is a Professor at the IBN ZOHR University in Morocco. Dr El Kadmiri is an active member of the Society of Neuroscientists of Africa (SONA).
Dr. Sara Elfarrash 🇪🇬
Dr. Sara Elfarrash is an Assistant Professor of Medical Physiology at Mansoura University in Egypt.
Dr. Lumbuka Kaunda 🇿🇲
Dr. Lumbuka Kaunda is the President of the Zambia Neuroscience Society at the University of Zambia in Zambia.
Dr. Bamidele Victor Owoyele 🇳🇬
Dr. Bamidele Victor Owoyele is a Professor at the University of Ilorin, College of Health Sciences in Nigeria. Dr. Owoyele has been a member of IBRO-ARC since 2021.

Dr. Carolina Escobar 🇲🇽
Dr. Carolina Escobar is a Professor at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) in Mexico. In the past, Dr. Escobar was secretary (2004-2006), vice-president (2008-2009), and president (2010-2011) of the Sociedad Mexicana de Ciencias Fisiológicas, as well as president of the Mexican Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience (2020-2021). Dr. Escobar has been a member of IBRO-LARC since 2021.

Dr. Diego Golombek is a Professor at the Universidad de San Andrés / National Research Council (CONICET) in Argentina. Dr. Golombek was in the past a board member, vice president, and president of the Argentinean Society for Neuroscience (SAN).
Dr. Paola Haeger 🇨🇱
Dr. Paola Haeger is a Professor at the Universidad Católica del Norte in Chile.
Dr. Deborah Suchecki 🇧🇷
Dr. Deborah Suchecki is a Professor at the Department of Psychobiology of the Universidade Federal de Sao Paulo (UNIFESP) in Brazil. Dr. Suchecki has also served as president of the Brazilian Society for Neuroscience and Behavior (SBNeC).
Dr. Flavio Zolessi 🇺🇾
Dr. Flavio Zolessi is an Associate Professor at the Facultad de Ciencias, Universidad de la Republica in Uruguay. In addition, Dr. Zolessi has been President (since 2023) of the Uruguayan Society for Neurosciences (SNU).
Dr. Teresa Morales 🇲🇽
Dr. Teresa Morales is a Professor at Instituto de Neurobiologia at UNAM in Mexico. In the past, Dr. Morales served as President and Vice-President of the Mexico City Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience (SfN).

Dr. Daniel Wójcik 🇵🇱
Dr. Daniel Wójcik is a Professor and Head of Laboratory of Neuroinformatics at the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology PAS in Poland. Dr. Wójcik is also a Research Professor, Group Leader (50% position) in TEAM-NET bioNN project, Institute of Applied Psychology, Faculty of Management and Social Communication, Jagiellonian University, Kraków, Poland.
