To bring attention to the need for more diversity, equity and inclusion in neuroscience and to celebrate Global Diversity Awareness Month, the ALBA Network, one of IBRO’s partners, has organized ALBA Diversity Week 2023, a week-long webinar series that will take place between 23-27 October.

Webinars will cover topics such as LGBTQIA+ advocacy, the gender gap, and socioeconomic disparities, and count numerous high-level speakers including IBRO President, Tracy Bale.

The program boasts three webinars as part of the ALBA-IBRO global diversity webinar series:

Day 2: Diversity & inclusion in neuroscience in Oceania, what can we do better?

24 October 2023, 09:30 CEST / 17:30 AEST / 19:30 NZST

Through testimonies from underrepresented communities (First Nations, LGBTQIA+, immigrants, etc.), the panel will discuss topics linked to diversity such as mental health, disabilities, parenthood, work-life balance, and gender equity. Speakers will also uncover insights and collaborative solutions to foster a more inclusive environment for all neuroscientists in the region.

Day 3: Unfinished business: persistent global gender disparities in neuroscience

25 October 2023, 09:00 EDT / 15:00 CEST / 18:30 IST

Despite numerous initiatives championing equity in neuroscience, the gender gap continues to endure. Women and individuals with gender identities beyond cisgender men are still significantly underrepresented in leadership roles. This webinar seeks to dissect the complex factors that continue to contribute to this ongoing disparity at global level.

Day 5: Addressing global socioeconomic inequalities in neuroscience

27 October 2023, 09:00 EDT / 15:00 CEST / 18:30 IST

This webinar seeks to unravel the – often hidden – disparities that researchers from different parts of the world face due to their socioeconomic and socio-cultural backgrounds. Together with representatives from funders, publishers and societies, the panel will explore actions and programs that can break down these barriers.
