Open: 03 May – 31 May 2023 |

The purpose of this event is to provide an opportunity for postgraduate students in the Asia- Pacific region to acquire cornerstone knowledge of both theoretical and technical key areas of addiction neuroscience with three main themes including (i) Cellular and Behavioral Neuroscience, (ii) Cognitive Neuroscience, and (iii) Computational Neuroscience.

About the school:

The Iranian Neuroscience Society, National Brain Mapping Lab, University of Tehran, Iranian National Center for Addiction Studies, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Iran University of Medical Sciences, Shahid Beheshti University, Shohada Tajrish Comprehensive Neurosurgical Center of Excellence, and Institute for Cognitive Science Studies are pleased to host the 2nd Iranian IBRO/APRC Associate School of Cognitive Neuroscience for Addiction Prevention and Treatment Development: From Animal Study to Human Brain Mapping, September 22-29, 2023 in Tehran, Iran.

The school provides two full days with 16 lectures and three days with opportunities to participate in a variety of hands-on practical sessions focused on training techniques for animal and human studies. During these sessions, training techniques such as Local Field Potential (LFP) Recording, Deep Brain Stimulation, Stereotaxic Surgery, Optogenetics, sMRI/fMRI/DTI, EEG/fNIRS, Cognitive Tasks/Interventions, BCI, Cognitive Modeling, tES/TMS, and Machine Learning/AI will offer the audience a unique opportunity to develop new skills and gain cutting-edge knowledge in the field of addiction neuroscience under the supervision of senior investigators and professors. The last day of the school is devoted to discussion about research ideas for future work. Participants will enjoy a full day of cultural visit in Tehran on the 5 th day of the school.

Who should apply to this school?

Funding from International Brain Research Organization (IBRO), Iranian Neuroscience Society (INSS) and Cognitive Science and Technologies Council (CSTC) of Iran will enable 24 students from the Asia Pacific region to attend this school. MD students and residents, PhD students and postdoctoral fellows in related disciplines who are not more than 35 years old (by May 1 st 2023) with adequate exposure to at least one research technique during their graduate studies, are encouraged to apply.

Applicants are expected to have at least one publication in peer-reviewed journals. The applicants should have very good communication skills in English (written/spoken). Students will be chosen on the basis of their academic records and their potential for being involved with addiction neuroscience in their home country and institute. All applicants should supply a one-page CV, the names of two academic referees and a statement (max 500 words) of how this school will benefit the applicant’s own research career. It is not required, but highly encouraged that all applicants submit one of their most recent and relevant publication in the field of neuroscience of addiction.

What costs will be covered for selected participants?

Students selected to attend the school will have their economy travel and living expenses (housing and meals) covered by the school. International students are responsible for arrangement of their visa, but it will be partially supported by the school secretariat office in Tehran.
